The Global Civilization Initiative Research Center Visits Peking University
As part of the scientific expeditions of the "Global Civilization Initiative Research Center," our most prominent and significant stop was the visit to Peking University (PKU) in China. This university is not merely an educational institution; it is recognized as the "intellectual heart and hub" of China—the place where modern Chinese history was shaped and the cradle of the "May Fourth Movement" and major cultural shifts.
Peking University has a rich history of nurturing figures who changed the course of history. It was here that thinkers like Li Dazhao, a co-founder of the Communist Party and a leader of academic Marxism, along with Mao Zedong, laid the intellectual foundations of the modern Chinese state. Additionally, Chen Duxiu, as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, played an unparalleled role in preparing the country’s political and cultural ground. Even in the modern era, the university has presented the world with skilled leaders such as the former Premier Li Keqiang.
The Kurdish language is taught at this university. During our discussions, we emphasized that the Kurdish language department should transcend the boundaries of mere language learning and evolve into a comprehensive center for "Kurdology." Our goal is to introduce the living history, philosophy, and civilization of the Kurds to the Chinese people, ensuring their understanding of the Kurdish people is at a deeper and more academic level.
Our visit to Peking University—ranked among the top five universities in China and the top fifty in the world—was not just an ordinary trip. It was an endeavor to build a strong cognitive bridge. This collaboration opens a significant door for our center’s staff and researchers to enhance their consultancy and knowledge levels through scientific exchange and participation in courses and seminars, taking the cultural relations between the two nations to a new stage.
